Upon recommendation to me earlier in the year I decided Adventure W would be a hike at Werribee Gorge located about an hour north west of Melbourne, just past Bacchus Marsh. I’d never been before and was keen to see what it had to offer. Upon arrival I discovered there were a few hiking choices and as Mike and I hadn’t done any long distant hiking for a while we opted for the 1.5hr Short Circuit walk. We hadn’t been going long before the elevation increased and before we knew it so had our heart rates. This hike was much tougher than I expected. I’m not sure if it was due to the lack of training or that it was just a super tough circuit but in the heat of the day it felt like one of the most challenging ones we’d done. But the challenge did not go unrewarded. The views from the top and the serenity we met along the meandering river were well worth the effort. I think it took us a bit longer than 1.5hrs but we were in no hurry and soaked up nature’s beauty as we explored the narrow trail. We finished the hike with a well-earned picnic – on a purple rug of course!
